Which oud oil for a first purchase?

Short answer

For a first oud oil, buy one millilitre of a pure oil before anything larger. At Woudya, this advice points to Origins, Grade A from Lombok: €45 for 1 ml, plus €7 tracked delivery to France or €11.05 to the EU. This is a seller's advice: other houses will point to their own oils.

Why a small format first

A micro-drop is enough for a wear, so one millilitre lets you find out whether this material is for you before you commit to a larger format.

Which grade to start with

Woudya advises Origins first because its woody, earthy and honeyed notes are easy to name. Heritage, Grade AA from Kalimantan (€90 for 1 ml), is darker: leather, dark fruit, smoke. Reserve, Grade AAA (€129 for 1 ml), is the top of the range. Grades are set by each seller and do not compare between houses.
