For a first bottle, buy 1 ml. At the standard drop of 0.05 ml, a millilitre holds about twenty applications: three weeks if you wear oud every day, six to ten weeks at the more common pace of two or three times a week. If you already know the grade and wear it daily, 3 ml is the size that stops you rationing. Five and ten millilitres belong to people who have already lived with that exact oil, because pure oud is not a fragrance you finish quickly. It is one you either keep reaching for, or leave in a drawer.

What One Drop Actually Is
The reference figure in pharmacy is the metric drop, defined as 0.05 ml, which puts twenty drops in one millilitre. That is the number this article uses throughout.
Pure oud oil is thicker than water, and it is not applied as a falling drop. You touch the glass applicator to the skin and deposit a micro-amount that should barely be visible. In practice that deposits less than a full 0.05 ml drop, which means twenty applications per millilitre is a conservative floor rather than a ceiling. The application guide covers the method itself.
One application means one or two pulse points, not a wrist rubbed against a neck. From there, the oil stays present for eight to twelve hours, so one drop generally covers a full day rather than a couple of hours. That single fact is why the arithmetic of oud looks nothing like the arithmetic of an eau de parfum you spray three times before leaving the house.
What we cannot give you is an average consumption per customer. We do not measure how much oil people actually use, so we do not publish a figure for it: to be confirmed is the honest answer. Twenty is derived from the standard drop volume, not from a measurement of your hand.

Two years is a long time to hold an oil, and it raises a question most size guides skip: does oud keep? Stored away from light, heat and air, it does. Oud is one of the few materials in perfumery that is generally considered to improve with age, which is why the ten millilitre size is not the risk it would be for a citrus cologne. What One Wearing Costs
Price per millilitre is the number vendors advertise. Price per wearing is the number you actually live with, and it is the one that makes grades comparable.

A €129 bottle sounds like a serious commitment. Six euros and forty-five cents to wear the densest oil we bottle, for a day, is a different sentence describing the same transaction. Both are true, and the second is the one that survives contact with how oud is actually used.
Does a Bigger Bottle Cost Less per Millilitre?
Yes, modestly. Origins is €45 per ml at one millilitre, €43 per ml at five, €40 per ml at ten. Heritage moves from €90 to €85 to €80. Reserve moves from €129 to €122 to €115. The spread between the smallest and largest size is around eleven percent across all three.
Eleven percent is not a reason to buy a size you will not finish. An oil you stop reaching for after four wearings costs far more per wearing than any grid can express. Volume pricing is a fact about the unit price, not an argument. The figures above are the price list, and they read the same next month.
More Millilitres, or a Higher Grade?
This is the real question hiding behind "how much do I need", and for a similar sum the answer usually favours grade. Three millilitres of Origins is €135. One millilitre of Reserve is €129. The first buys sixty wearings of a Grade A Lombok oil; the second buys twenty wearings of the densest oil in the collection, and tells you where the ceiling is.
Volume is the right choice once you know which oil you want to wear. Grade is the right choice while you are still finding out. Chips Are Measured Differently
Oud chips are sold by weight, at €9 per gram, from 3 grams. They are not an alternative to oil so much as a different room: one gram on a burner scents a space for thirty to sixty minutes, and the scent settles into fabric rather than skin.
