Where to Buy Real Indonesian Oud in Europe (2026)

Real oud in Europe travels through three channels. The right one depends on your stage. Here is the practical map.

Channel 1 — EU-based artisanal distillers

The most accessible route for a first purchase. A small number of EU operations source Aquilaria from Indonesia, oversee the distillation directly or through trusted partners, and bottle in France or another EU country. Customs, returns, language, and delivery times are inside the EU. Most ship Colissimo tracked, 2 to 5 days.

Woudya is one example. Hand-bottled in France, Indonesian distillation (Lombok and Kalimantan), free EU shipping, three grades available by the millilitre. Other comparable EU houses exist, often with higher entry prices and longer waiting lists.

What to ask any EU artisanal source

A serious seller answers all four without hesitation.

Channel 2 — Established niche perfumery houses

Houses like Areej Le Doré, Sultan Pasha Attars, or some of the older Middle Eastern brands available in Europe. Excellent quality, but entry prices typically start at €150 to €250 per 3ml, and supply is intermittent. Mostly relevant for collectors who already know their preferences.

Channel 3 — Direct import from Indonesia or the Middle East

Possible for experienced buyers. Requires identifying a verified Indonesian distiller (most reliable ones are introduced through niche perfumery forums or Reddit communities), negotiating a small lot, accepting 10 to 21 days shipping, and handling customs paperwork. Cost per ml is often lower, but the risk of disappointment is higher for a first purchase. Save this route for once you know your profile.

Where not to buy

Amazon and eBay

The price-to-volume ratio of items labelled "oud" is mathematically incompatible with real oud in 95% of cases. The few legitimate listings are exceptions, not the rule. If you must check Amazon, filter by price above €40 per ml and read reviews specifically about evolution on skin.

Generic Etsy sellers

Same logic. Some Etsy sellers are legitimate small distillers. Most are resellers of synthetic accords. The pattern is the same: realistic price per ml, batch information available, single-origin product, no "blend" wording.

Marketplace shops listing dozens of "ouds" at the same price

A real distiller works with two or three origins at most. A shop offering Cambodian, Indian Assam, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Burmese, Thai and Malay oud all at €40 for 3ml is selling fragrance oil with oud-themed packaging.

Geographic note. Real oud is heaviest in shipping terms (small glass vials in protective cushioning). Within the EU, that means free tracked shipping is the standard expectation. From outside, expect €15 to €30 shipping and possible customs duties. Factor this into the per-ml cost.

Shipping logistics, plainly

Country-by-country availability

France

Woudya (EU-wide shipping from France), Henry Jacques (very high end, by appointment), a few independent perfumers in Paris and Grasse. The strongest EU base for artisanal oud overall.

Germany

Few local artisanal sources, but most EU-based distillers ship to Germany at no extra cost. Munich and Berlin have niche perfumery boutiques that carry niche oud lines.

UK

Areej Le Doré (Russian Adam) ships globally, several London-based niche houses (Roja Dove, Penhaligon's high-end lines). Post-Brexit, EU customers may face VAT on import.

Italy / Spain / Netherlands

No major artisanal oud distiller based locally. Mostly served by France-based houses with free tracked shipping.

Start with a 1ml of Lombok

A single millilitre of pure Indonesian oud, hand-bottled in France, shipped tracked across the EU at no charge. €45.
