Oud Chips

Premium agarwood chips for traditional burning — the ancient ritual, at home

The Ritual of Oud

For centuries across the Arabian Peninsula, Southeast Asia, and Japan, burning oud chips has been a ritual of purification, hospitality, and meditation. A single piece of agarwood, placed on glowing charcoal in a mabkhara (traditional incense burner), releases a complex, evolving smoke that fills a room with warmth and depth.

Unlike synthetic incense sticks, natural oud chips produce a scent that shifts and develops — opening with sweet, balsamic notes before settling into deep, woody, almost leathery territories. Each chip burns differently. Each session is unique.

Our Oud Chips

Woudya's oud chips are carefully selected pieces of resin-infused agarwood. They are not treated, sprayed, or artificially enhanced — what you receive is pure wood, naturally rich in the aromatic compounds that make oud one of the most valued materials on Earth.

How to Burn Oud Chips

Traditional method: Light a piece of charcoal in your mabkhara or incense burner. Once the charcoal is white-hot, place a small chip or fragment on top. The oud will begin to release its scent immediately — a thin, fragrant smoke that perfumes everything it touches.

Electric burner: Place a chip on an electric oud burner set to medium heat (around 180-220°C). This method provides a slower, more controlled release of the scent without the smoke of charcoal.

Pro tip: Start with a small piece. You can always add more, but oud is potent. A fragment the size of a grain of rice is often enough for a small room.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will I get from one order?
Each chip can be used for multiple sessions. A small fragment burns for 15-30 minutes. The number of sessions depends on chip size and how much you use per session.

Do I need special equipment?
A traditional charcoal burner (mabkhara) or an electric oud burner works best. In a pinch, you can use any heat-safe vessel with charcoal, but dedicated burners give the best results.

What's the difference between oud chips and oud oil?
Oud oil is the distilled essence — concentrated, applied to skin like a perfume. Oud chips are the raw wood, burned to scent a room. Both come from agarwood, but the experience is different. Many oud enthusiasts use both.
